Small Steps Help To Reduce Climate Change
Based on Nasa research about Climate
Change, the Earth's average temperature has increased about 1 degree Fahrenheit
during the 20th century. One degree may sound like a small amount, but it's an
unusual event in our planet's recent history. Earth's climate records which are preserved in tree rings, ice cores, and
coral reefs, show that the global average temperature had been stable over long
periods of time. Furthermore, small changes in temperature correspond to enormous
changes in the environment. For example, a stronger greenhouse effect will warm
the oceans, melt glaciers and other ice in South and North pole partially, and
increase the sea level. The increased sea level will be also contributed by the
expanded ocean water when it is warm.
The industrial activities, which our modern civilization depends
upon, have raised atmospheric
carbon dioxide levels from 280 parts per million to 379 parts per million in
the last 150 years. That situation also concluded there's a better than 90
percent probability that human-produced greenhouse gases such as carbon
dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have caused much of the observed increase in
Earth's temperatures over the past 50 years.
Based on those facts, there are several
ways to help mitigating the effects of climate change. I’ve been trying to
implement these ways as my habits and hopefully they might be useful and
inspire others.
1.
Save
Electricity and Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning.
If you want to build or
renovate your house, use good ir ventilation and space with good lighting it
means the air circulation move fluently and when you didn’t turn on your light
in the day, sunshine will bright your main room. Save electricity by turning
off lights when you leave the room, and only use the light as required. Do not
forget to turn off your television, video player, stereo and computer when
you're not using them.
2. Do Not Destroy Any Plant,
what I mean by not destroying any plant
is starting to take care the plants in our environment first. Even not to
revoke small leaves from the plant will contribute to our environment. To contribute
more, we can also start planting some trees. Bring planting trees around place
you live into mainstream civilization.

3. Dispose The Garbage In The Right Place
Do not litter anywhere. If there are no
trash can around us, bring along the trash until we find the trash can.
Remember to separate organic and anorganic trash.
4. Reuse, Reduce, Recycle.
Whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic,
newspaper, glass and aluminum cans. If there is no recycling program at your
workplace, school, or in your community, ask about starting one. By recycling
half of your household waste, you can save 2400 pounds of carbon dioxide per
year. These act also try to help reducing the amount of garbage near you. However
from the World Bank data, UNEP news mention, at this time, the volume of
garbage the world has reached 1.3 billion tons per year.
Make a habit of walking and cycling for
going somewhere in your city. If you want to use a car, when you travel, make
sure your car is running efficiently. By reducing the use of motor vehicles,
the carbon dioxide in the air will also be reduced.
6. Bring Your Own Water Bottle. Don't Use
Plastic Bottle.
By bringing our own water bottle, we don’t
have to buy any water when we are thirsty and we will also contribute to our
environment in reducing plastic bottle.
7. Bring Your Own Bag When You Go Shopping.
Don’t use a plastic bag from the store
even if you just buy little things. Bring your own. If you buy many stuffs,
bring a larger bag which can be folded into small shape.
Great things start from small things
which done consistently and continuously. Speak up and do these simple things
to help. If there are at
least 1000 people who are willing doing these, Hopefuly it can reduce the
impact of climate change. Let’s do it together. Start with yourself, from the little things,
and from now on :)
